Seminars & Classes

The Company encourages its employees to further their knowledge and abilities by attending seminars and classes offering additional training. Participation in seminars/training sessions is voluntary and is not a requirement of employment. Employees must have completed one year of service with the Company before they will be eligible for "tuition assistance." If approved by Management, the Company will assume a portion of the cost of the seminar/training class, including airfare, lodging and expenses under the terms set forth under “Travel Policy” elsewhere in this manual. Please note the employee will be responsible for paying fees, airfare, lodging and expenses. The Company will reimburse the employee upon the employee's submission of all receipts/proof of attendance with their mileage/expense forms.

Employees who would like to attend a seminar or class must discuss the opportunity with management to ensure attendance will not inconvenience the Company's daily operations. Management will award approval of attendance. Attendance at an approved seminar will not be deducted from vacation days, comp time or personal days.

Seminar/class attendance is not considered part of the work day, and no overtime is available to, or comp time earned by, employees who work longer than the scheduled work day while attending or traveling to or from a seminar or other training session.

If an employee resigns before completing six months of service after completion of the seminar/training course, the employee will be responsible for reimbursing the Company 100 percent of the costs the Company paid the employee to participate in the seminar/training, including, but not limited to, registration fees, airfare, lodging and expenses. If an employee resigns six to twelve months after completion of the seminar/training course, the employee will be responsible for reimbursing 50 percent of the costs. Employees who attend one-day seminars and training classes are exempt from the reimbursement penalty upon resignation. All class materials, including books and handouts, remain the property of the Company.

This benefit is subject to suspension at any time at discretion of Management.
